Your starting point should be the fairy bedding and curtains as this will set the tone for the rest of the room. A fairy theme presents you with two options. You can decorate with soft, pastel colours for a traditional look or go for a funky colour palette with a modern slant. You may be able to go all out and fill the room with accessories to match the duvet cover and curtains but if your budget won't stretch to that then don’t despair as you can still create a lovely room using a few key pieces. Pick one or two accent colours from your main item and buy accessories to tone in. As you can see in our featured photo the bedside lamp has a pink shade with white polka dots which coordinates the skirt the fairy on the duvet cover is wearing. If your little girl has her heart set on having her room stuffed with goodies to match her chosen fairy bedding but your budget is tight then explain that you can only buy a few things now but she can have extra pieces for her birthday or Christmas. She might even chip in some of her pocket money to buy a pretty cushion or a pack of wall stickers. Wall stickers are a brilliant way to enhance a fairy themed bedroom while keeping the over all cost low. If you think carefully about the colour you initially use on your child's wall then you may get away with several changes of theme without having to repaint while just replacing the stickers with new ones. Now you've got your fairy themed bedroom decorated and dressed with the accessories there are little finishing touches you can add to give the room extra fairy atmosphere. If your child is old enough then fairy lights are a magical addition and you can buy some pretty ones now which are shaped, for example like flowers or stars. Net voile can create a dreamy atmosphere and a bit of careful draping can render sewing skills unnecessary. Why not use glitter paint and stencils to add sparkly highlights to the wall. |
